New York City, 1949. Brothers Norman and Harold Gulamerian have trouble finding quality artists' linen and begin importing from Europe. Before long, their Utrecht Linens, Inc. expands to a full-scale art supplier. Here in little Rhody, RISD students flock to the local Utrecht Art Supplies in search of canvas, brushes, paint, and a fine smattering of smocks.
