Free and open to the public, MassArt's Bakalar & Paine Galleries are the crown jewel of the oldest (and only!) public art college in the nation. If you are cruising the Avenue of the Arts (MFA, Gardner), a visit to this nearby spot is definitely worth the trip. There are four major professional exhibitions planned this year; last season featured a killer presentation of personality-infused Indian/Persian miniature paintings from Shahzia Sikander, and an in-house curated show ("Astatic") that showcased cutting-edge works and techniques in animation.
