BEST STREET MUSICIAN PERSONALITY
"CHINESE ONE-STRING VIOLIN GUY"
Of all the street musicians in Boston, there certainly is no shortage of novelties. Casio man at Downtown Crossing, fu-manchu-beard grump at Park Street, one man band guy at Faneuil Hall, etc. But many seem to love "CHINESE ONE-STRING VIOLIN GUY" in Harvard Square the best. Whether you declare him a genius or joke is a test of your level of cool. That's not a broken violin, you dope — it's a jinghu, traditionally played in Chinese opera. Granted, he might not be the best jinghu player in the world (our expert deemed him "so-so"). But for those who cheer his genius, kudos. Here's to the last bird in the last tree in what has become essentially the biggest student union in the US.
