The Low Anthem
The snowball indeed gathered speed in ’09 for media darlings the Low Anthem, the Providence-based indie folk trio who fast developed a cult following after re-releasing Oh My God, Charlie Darwin in June (the follow-up to their 2007 debut What the Crow Brings), and the first single “The Horizon Is a Beltway” proved a jangly thumper alongside the solemn and sparse “To Ohio” and “(Don’t) Tremble.” Outlets from NPR to the BBC (who called TLA “this year’s Fleet Foxes”) were praising the band, particularly after seeing the trio in action. Ben Knox Miller, Jocie Adams, and Jeff Prystowsky recently brought a sold-out Lupo’s to a standstill with an incredibly stirring opening set at a recent Deer Tick hometown show. TLA will appear at the Newport Folk Fest and Lollapalooza before embarking on a world tour through November.
