Female Vocalist

Chelsy Lau

chelsea main

In arguably the most competitive category in this year’s BMP, Chelsy Lau ran away with the Female Vox crown. Playing out statewide regularly while fronting the Chelsy Lau Band, who released their full-length debut No Genre in April. It’s a fitting title when considering the soulful blend of roots, folk, and alt-rock guided by Lau’s sultry yet bittersweet vocals; Tori Amos and Natalie Merchant come to mind. Lau’s vocal range is often complemented by her well-honed piano skills on standout tracks “Literary Man,” “Sweet Life,” and “Translucent.” Such strong voter turnout for Lau didn’t go unnoticed here, and we’re looking forward to catching the Chelsy Lau Band in action, which has gigs lined up from the Block Island Jam Fest in August to the next International Beer Festival in November at the Convention Center.
