Located somewhere between rock and country (with some folk thrown in for good measure), Gypsy Tailwind deliver strong, smooth roots sounds. Building on their sophomore endeavor, Grace, they have established the firm identity of a roots band. Credit has to be given to new female lead singer Amanda Gervasi, who steps into a deep pool of talented musicians, adding a robust sound that enlivens the usually reserved vocals. A nominee for Best Female Vocalist two years in a row, Gervasi's high pitches drill through the deep instrumentations, becoming the focal point of every song. Backing Gervasi is a powerful rhythm section that twangs, bangs, and sways with wistful guidance.
