New Act
Yes Giantess
![]() |
This upstart electro four-piece broke out of nowhere in 2009 hot on the heels of Passion Pit’s low-key dance-anthem power grab. From the looks of things, they’re just getting started: besides having the local scene in the bag, they’ve got a spot on the NME tour this fall in the UK, a remix of Wolf Gang in the can, and their own kitschy mixtape plastered on the Internet that goes from Journey to Gui Boratto to Prince without dropping a beat. But the real sell is their tunes — slick, moody tracks as melodic and catchy as they are thick and club-ready. Did you think copping beats from Rick Astley was a bad idea? You were wrong. It’s rad. Swap in some smarmy come-ons à la Midnight Vultures–era Beck and you’ll soon feel the Yes Giantess appeal. You and your bedroom mirror are about to have a serious dance party.
