Sunset hearts

CITY: Portland

Back in 2010, Sunset Hearts mastermind Casey McCurry of Satellite Lot was on the verge of giving up music to focus on his Greek studies when various members of Portland’s music scene kept pestering him about his glowing electronic pop compositions. He eventually gave in, and Sunset Hearts were fleshed out with nine total members; the results are a lush space ride through galactic pop gazes that sound like they could be from anywhere but Maine. This month’s neon-tinged Deco Tech EP is highlighted by the cosmic slow-build of “Past Lives,” taking elements of M83 and Twin Shadow and filtering it through the organic wilderness of the Pine Tree State. Sunset Hearts have already opened for Passion Pit at the State Theatre and performed at Brooklyn’s Northside Festival, and later this summer they’ll share a bill with Bassnectar and Deftones at the KahBang fest in Bangor. Sunset Hearts are a remarkable and intriguing collective, and deserving of a permanent spot on your summer playlists.
