WHY THEM? Putting a needle on the groove of a Kings Go Forth LP will probably have you rushing to your calendar to see what decade it is: after all, there really isn't anyone on the planet right now making such authentic '70s soul music. If that sounds lazy, then you clearly haven't heard the band and their jams — this isn't an act of temporal thievery, but a way of channeling tried and true methods into top-notch songwriting. With Kings, the brainchild of bassist Andy Noble and vocalist Black Wolf, you've got three-part harmonies; you've got horn sections; and you've got an insanely cooking rhythm section, all in the service of soul stirring originals that will have you swearing you've heard them before — and wanting to hear them again and again. BONUS BIT! Noble and Wolf met when the latter would frequent the former's now-defunct record store, Milwaukee's Lotus Land. The two found a bond in their shared love of soul music that allowed them to ignore the 25-year difference in their ages.
