WHY THEM? It’s 2010. Everybody loves Krautrock. Few approach it like Cave. On previous efforts, their sinister synths, malevolent organs, dying guitars, and murderous drums sounded like Can, if Can were trying to stab you for your heroin. On Pure Moods, their latest EP, they still sound like Can, but this time around their sound is steeped in other, less narcotic influences — fellow Chicagoans the Sea and Cake come to mind. Cave originated in Columbia, Missouri, but have called Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood home for the past few years — and it seems to have rubbed off. You can hear Humboldt’s strange mix of gangbangers and green space in Cave’s weirdo psych.
