WHY THEM? Here in Boston we only get a precious few months of the year to hit the beach, drive with the windows down, and revel in summertime joy. With such a limited window for youthful fun, we’ll take infectious indie pop wherever we find it. Idaho’s Spondee are a love letter of sugar-smacked folk-pop whimsy, and they’re a cheap first date after hooking up with Mexico-based free-music Internet label the Poni Republic to give away debut album Pop Your Socks Off. Standout synth-led jam “Lovelorn Robot” perfectly captures the bittersweet emotion of youth, and isn’t that what summer is all about, from Boise to Boston, anyway?

BONUS BIT! Spondee first formed in 2005 as a side project to Clint Vickery and Tyler Shafer’s concept band Frozen Sunshine. They resumed efforts as Spondee just two years later.
