WHY THEM? You never know what kind of street-walking cheetah you’ll find walking the city streets at 3 am, but those who’ve recently caroused Atlanta’s moonlit underbelly likely encountered charismatic Constellations front man Elijah Jones. The son of a Baptist minister, Jones’s slick but gritty pop compositions reflect Atlanta’s booming after-hours culture, weaving a genre-hopping debut that pits modern electronica against southern hip-hop and whiskey-drunk rock and roll. Cameos by Cee-Lo Green and Asher Roth fuel this Atlanta octet’s varied sound, but production by Ben H. Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley) keeps it locked down into one tight guitar rock strut.

BONUS BIT! Because of the Constellations’ kaleidoscope sound, the band has shared the stage with everyone from rapper Snoop Dogg to UK indie kids Hockey to hip-hop producer/performer RJD2.
